Manifolds are used in many industries to separate flows to a number of distinct process lines. Manifolds are a more economical solution than placing multiple tees in succession, and more compact than multiple crosses. The immediate disadvantage of a manifold is that all of the ports exit the manifold the same direction. Additional elbows or bends will be needed to redirect flow.
